After a big thunderstorm, I adventured out into my backyard with my D90 to see what I could capture with my 85 macro lens. Some of the results were amazing. This photo below is a very thin branch on my lemon tree with a little droplet of water waiting to fall. The droplet hung there for ages as the light shines through the speck of water.

What a sensational time had by all. Caught a train down to Geelong where I met up with a fellow photographer. We traveled down to Split Point which is located on the North side of Lorne along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. I got to learn more about night photography and how to take photos of stars and then make a trail of the light. After spending a few hours and taking up to 200 photos the end results were going to besensational.

It was a very cool night by the sea with a southerly wind blowing. The sky was clear and with out the moon and not a cloud to be seen, it was a perfect night for star lite photography. Setting up the gear was the easy part as the camera was taking photos every 30 seconds for an hour. The next stage was to use a program which stacks the images together to forms the star trails. Which means as the earth moves the stars leave a light trail and after you have stacked the images together it forms the colours lines of the trail.

Thank you to James and Brendan for sharing with me there wonderful knowledge on other ways to take night photography which can create something very special. Can’t wait to head back down the coast again to try it out once more.

Hope you enjoy the results below.
